Does this sound familiar to you? “Honey, do you know where I put the nail gun?” If it does, and if the fact that you cannot find your things annoys you, then you need to turn to home inventory software for help. The application that can lend a helping hand in this situation is the GuacoSoft-developed and appropriately named Attic Manager. You can use the application to create a database of all your belongings. For each item you can add a picture, add a description and comment, specify where it is stored, and more.

The Attic Manager installation file for Windows is only 3.5MB in size (there’s also a Linux version). You can install the home inventory software application on anything from Windows 2000 onward. A simple setup wizard will help you install Attic Manager; just run the installation file and the setup wizard will show up and guide you through the steps needed to install Attic Manager.

The multi-pane interface Attic Manager has to offer isn’t terribly difficult to figure out. The pane to the left displays your locations –the Garage and My Residence locations are already in the list; you can add more locations if you want to. The large pane to the right displays all your belongings – the list view is enabled by default; you can switch to the thumbnail view if you want to. And the pane in the bottom left hand corner displays the image of the item you selected – assuming, of course, that you added a picture.

At the top there are conveniently placed buttons for creating new locations and for adding items to those locations. Take the nail gun example above. You can select the Garage location, then click on Add item to add an entry for your nail gun. In the Item Properties window you can enter a name for the item, pick a category from the long list of existing categories or add a new category, add a comment/description, add a photo, and more. When you’re done, you will notice an entry for the nail gun in your list of items.

You don’t want to spend a lot of time setting up a database of all your belongings and lose it, now do you? Attic Manager is prepared for such an eventuality: you can print a list of all your belongings, you can export the database, and you can back up the database.

Please note that Attic Manager is not free, it is only free to try. The trial version lets you store a limited amount of items in the database.

Efficiently manage and keep track of your belongings with the Attic Manager application.
